A Philadelphia bus driver was arraigned Thursday for the aggravated assault of a 52-year-old woman on his bus.

Mario Edney, 53, is accused of grabbing the woman's hair and slamming her head into a pole, before opening the door and pushing her into traffic, reports The Associated Press

The unidentified woman suffered a broken shoulder.

Police say the assault occurred after she yelled at Edney for missing her stop. He said he skipped the stop due to a detour.

Richard Maloney, spokesman for the Southeastern Pennsylvania Transportation Authority, says transit authorities have suspended Edney without pay. He will be fired over the incident.

Edney is being held on $2000 bail.
