Police said a taxi driver hit two students with his cab after an argument over religion.

According to the incident report, Ibrahim Ahmed, a 37-year-old Sunni Muslim from Somalia, picked up two college students on Sunday. The men were visiting the Vanderbilt University campus in Nashville, Tenn from Ohio.

During the cab ride the passengers got into a religious argument with Ahmed. All three men exited the vehicle and the students paid their fare. Then police said Ahmed got into his vehicle and chased the two men across a parking lot and over a curb before striking them.

Student Jeremy Invus sustained critical injuries and was taken to Vanderbilt University Medical Center. The other student was not injured.

United Cab manager Cherrie Machado said they are relying on the police for further information. She said she is not sure whether Ahmed will still have a job but that she would not be comfortable with him working there after the incident.

Ahmed is being charged with assault and attempted homicide as well as theft after police found the license plate to the cab was listed as stolen.
