A cat accidentally packed in a container with household goods survived a three week trip crossing the Pacific Ocean without food and water. Pamela Escamilla, who owned the cat, had given up hope when her cat could not be found for three weeks.
However, Escamilla was surprised when she learned that Spice survived the trip in a shipping container with no food or water.
The 3-year-old calico left for the voyage after she was accidentally packed in a huge container with household goods in Waikoloa Village, Hawaii. The container was shipped June 15 to Southern California.
As Escamilla and her husband could not find the cat, the couple asked their neighbors in Hawaii to call if Spice returned. To their utter surprise, Spice arrived at the San Bernardino home of Escamilla's parents on Tuesday after spending 18 days without food or water in a dark container as it crossed the Pacific.
AP reports that though the cat is doing well, her kidneys had shrunk and her bowels were backed up. She has now managed to eat get some food and water at the vet.
