In Redwood Middle School in Northern California, students are now allowed to wear socks with their favorite cartoon characters

School officials have relaxed their dress code, thanks to a student who wore socks with the "Winnie the Pooh" cartoon character Tigger on the first day of school last year.

According to reports, they also paid $95,000 in lawyers' fees to five families who sued to school over its rules on uniform socks and designs.

The parents haled the school officials to court after the student was sanctioned for donning the Tigger socks.

To prevent a long-drawn legal battle, the district superintendent said Thursday that the school decided to settle and pay the legal fees of the plaintiffs.

It will also have to pay for its own counsels.
