A man tossed cash from his car in Los Angeles and a traffic jam followed as other drivers stopped to pick up the loot.

California Highway Patrol officers arrived on the scene where about 10 people were out of their cars, attempting to gather up the loose cash on the westbound 210 Freeway near Grand Avenue Sunday afternoon, the Los Angeles Times reported.

The man who tossed the money into traffic arrived at the nearby Azusa Police Department, telling officers he wanted to commit suicide.

Authorities described the man as emotionally disturbed, the LA Times reported.

Drivers who grabbed some of the free-flying cash Sunday were asked to return it to the Azusa police or to the CHP's Baldwin Park office.
