The California Department of Public Health officials announced it is restoring the words "bride" and "groom" on all marriage license forms issued in California starting Nov. 17. The move was in response to the clamor of many couple who still prefer the traditional terms instead of the gender-neutral "Party A" and "Party B," introduced when the same-sex marriage was legalized on June 16 to replace the "bride" and "groom" words.

Mathematicians at the University of California Los Angeles claim that they have found a 13-million-digit prime number long sought by computer users. The Los Angeles Times reported the discovery of the first verified Mersenne prime number with more than 10 million digits qualifies UCLA for a $100,000 prize from the Electronic Frontier Foundation. The discovery is the 46th known Mersenne prime number and the eighth Mersenne prime discovered at UCLA.

Police in California seized hundreds of pot plants, $384,000 in cash and arrested six people in connection with marijuana grow houses. Eight warrants were served Tuesday and marijuana plants were found at indoor grow operations in two large, well-maintained upscale suburban homes in El Dorado Hills and Placerville. The other warrants were served in Cameron Park - where marijuana growing equipment was found - and in Placerville, Lincoln, Sacramento and Elk Grove.

Over 5,000 YouTube videos of the herb salvia divinorum on the apparent negative effects after it is ingested is placing in peril its approval for medicinal purposes. Up to half a million hits had been logged by some of the YouTube broadcasts of salvia use, helping make the once unknown hallucinogen popular among the youth.

A family of bobcats has moved into one of the many foreclosed houses in an upscale community in Southern California. According to the Los Angeles Times, neighbors in the Tuscany Hills community spotted the felines lounging around and on the Spanish-style house and called authorities thinking the cats were mountain lions. When authorities arrived, they found two adult bobcats and three kittens living in the spacious house.
