Nissan Planning Sober Car

Automaker Nissan is planning technology able to detect whether drivers are sober. The techniques, unveiled in concept form, could reduce driving fatalities to below that of a decade ago, according to the car maker. One system under investigation is a gearshift able to discern the driver's alcohol level, emitting an audio warning if the operator drinks too much. Already, Volvo offers a breathalyser that won't allow the car's ignition to start if alcohol levels are too high.

Police On The Hunt For Testicle-Removing Surgeons

Police in St. Paul, Minn. is looking out for a group of medical "professionals" who removed a 62-year-old man's testicles at a surgery in his home. The man, whose identity was not revealed, turned to the "professionals" after conventional medical professionals refused to remove his testicles when he approached them with chronic pain.

Giant Panda Gives Birth In San Diego Zoo

A giant panda at the San Diego Zoo is a proud new mama. After 2 1/2 hours in labor, Bai Yun gave birth to her fourth cub. Officials found out she was pregnant July 18 after they detected a heartbeat and saw the fetus on an ultrasound. The panda's sex is unknown and the head of the zoo's panda program says all they've seen so far is the tail.

Female Red-Tail Hawk Delays Traffic On Philadelphia Highway

Commuters on Interstate 95 in Philadelphia had no choice but to reach for their camera phones when an injured hawk caused traffic jam for on Thursday morning. The 8-week-old female red-tail hawk, which was found with a broken wing on the highway, required a rescue effort that contributed to delays of about 15 minutes. According to AP reports, a team from Pennsylvania Game Commission rescued the bird at about 9:30 am and took it to the Webbed Foot Wildlife Clinic. The bird will be treated or euthanized, depending on the severity of its injury.

New Jersey Church Trustee Charged With Theft From Collection Plate

A trustee and choir member of a New Jersey church has been charged with stealing from the collection plate. William J. Briunno, 71, is accused of stealing $28,000 from over 11 years. Our Lady of Lourdes Roman Catholic Church officials became suspicious of Briunno when a camera in the church's in-house video surveillance system caught him putting the money in his pocket.
