A Catholic priest on the University of Illinois campus has pleaded not guilty to charges that he was selling cocaine from his church office and rectory at St. John's Catholic Newman Center.

Rev. Christopher Layden was arrested after police searched those locations and found about three grams of cocaine and drug paraphernalia, including a scale, according to reports.

Police conducted an investigation after an informant claimed to have purchased cocaine from Layden.

Layden, 33, was charged with two counts of unlawful delivery of a controlled substance and one count of unlawful possession of a controlled substance with intent to deliver, within 1,000 feet of a church.

He faces six to 30 years in prison on the charges.
