Despite disapprovement by church officials, nine Catholic women were unofficially ordained as priests and deacons near Ottawa, Canada. The ceremony was conducted aboard a tour boat. Of the nine women, seven were Americans. Two unofficial female bishops from Austria and Germany performed the ordinations.
