A Quebec court sentenced Olympic biathlete Myriam Bedard's boyfriend to six months in jail on Friday. Nima Mazhari was sentenced after being convicted of possession of stolen property and art theft for stealing 20 paintings valued at $100,000 from elderly Montreal artist Ghitta Caiserman-Roth.

Mazhari previously shared an art studio with Caiserman-Roth, but prosecutors claimed Mazhari stole the well-known artist's paintings after the relationship went bad and she canceled the lease on the studio.

Bedard, who won 2 gold medals in the winter Olympics in 1994, was not charged with any offense in the case. However, several of the stolen paintings were located at the homes of Bedard family members.

Bedard and Mazhari previously made the news in December 2006. At that time, the father of Bedard's daughter accused Bedard of violating a child custody agreement after she took the child to the United States with Mazhari. Bedard, who turned herself in to police, will appear in court to face those charges in September.
