Notorious convicted pedophile Peter Whitmore has reportedly asked to be chemically castrated. According to the Winnipeg Free Press, Whitmore wrote a letter to prison authorities in which he asked for the procedure.
Whitmore, 36, entered a guilty plea to charges that he had abducted and sexually assaulted two boys last summer. In that case, Whitmore was arrested after a ten hour standoff with police. He was sentenced on Monday to life in prison without the possibility of parole for seven years, and also has other convictions for sexually abusing other children in Ontario beginning in 1989.
If authorities allow Whitmore to undergo the procedure, he would ingest certain hormonal drugs that could suppress his sexual urges. Over the long term, if Whitmore continues the procedure, his sex drive could be permanently eliminated.
According to various media reports, Whitmore also asked to be chemically castrated in 2005. His lawyer said, however, that it wasn't done because prison authorities could not find a doctor willing to perform the procedure.
