Bad Weather Causes Massive Pileup In Michigan

Sudden violent winds accompanied by snow caused an 86-car pileup on a western Michigan freeway that injured 25 people. None of the injuries are life-threatening, police said Monday. Visibility was down to zero on the icy road, stacking some of the cars four deep on U. S. 31, reports The Associated Press. Witness Laurie Devries says some of the cars were on fire, with one woman panicking, "Her car was on fire and she couldn't get out so she just passed the baby through the window. We kind of got him up to the hill and helped some other people out of their car. "

According to police, he caused nearly a million dollars in damage, burning about a dozen cars, including a rare Ford GT Heritage. George Georgettis, 56, a supervisor with the city of North Miami Beach, walked away from the dealership Saturday afternoon as if nothing had happened, witnesses said. Police caught up with him a few blocks away from the dealership at 9000 NW Seventh Ave. He was arrested without incident. Police charged him with first-degree arson, a felony, and with felony criminal mischief. He posted a $1,500 bond on Sunday.

In Foshan, a southern industrial city with a large migrant population, supermarkets report diaper sales have risen 50 percent since the main travel season began on Jan. 14, local media reports.
