A fugitive is fatally shot by a deputy after trying to escape from custody, breaking through the window of a patrol car and attempting to commandeer a school bus loaded with children. On Friday, Deven Lepierro was accused of stealing from a Wal-Mart store and deputies later discovered he was a parolee wanted on two felony warrants.

After a six hour chase that included dodging cars, a game of chicken with a train, and a dip in the icy Missouri River, an escaped cow was recaptured with three tranquilizer darts. The black, 1,200-pound heifer jumped a gate at a slaughterhouse at around 5 a. m. Thursday.

Dutch troops aiding earthquake survivors in Pakistan have been complaining that while they are not allowed to consume alcohol, Spanish and British soldiers (who are allowed) have been ridiculing and taunting them while at campfires. A soldier says, "We were told before we arrived that alcohol was banned in this country or else very difficult to get hold of and we accepted this. "

On Thursday German police forces captured two men believed to have stolen over a dozen cars by following their foot prints in the snow. The car thieves stole 15 vehicles from two garden sheds, and were in the process of getting away.
