A cat called Wild Oats went for 19 whole days with a jar on its head, to the frustration and the concern of a woman who has been feeding it for years.

Tabitha Cain recalled seeing the cat with an empty peanut butter jar on its head, and tried to catch it to get the jar off.

"We tried to get her, but being the type of cat you can't catch, she kept running around and hiding," stated Tabitha Cain's mother Doretha.

The cat reportedly did not appear for one week, leading the family to fear for what might have happened.

They then saw the cat in a frail and weak frame, making it easy for them to catch her with a fishing net. An amount of oil was used to get the jar off the feline's head, said a New Zealand Herald article.

The cat's wounds were treated, and she began to feed two days after it was found.

"I've heard of cats having nine live but I think this one has 19 because she survived 19 days," the AP quoted Doretha Cain.

Gerald Blackburn, a veterinarian from Memphis, said that similar incidents involving other pets have occurred, with them getting trapped even for several weeks, and still surviving the ordeal.

He explained that in the case of Wild Oats, she might have survived by living off her excess fat.
