A new reality TV show will feature 10 cats living behind a New York store window and vying for new owners. Reuters reports the show will be aired on Animal Planet as well as on the www. MeowMixHouse. com Web site.

Rhode Island has become the first state to require cat owners to spay or neuter their pets, or obtain a breeder's license. Faced with climbing costs to euthanize stray animals, Gov. Don Carcieri signed legislation forcing cats older than six months to receive the procedures, or pay $100 for a license.

A Russian court sentenced a 25-year-old for three years and nine months in prison for beating a cat to death in front of a number of children, the ITAR-TASS news agency said on Thursday. According to a report by AFP, the court heard that Nikolai Pavlenko, snatched a cat from the courtyard of an apartment block and then smashed its ahead against some steps, killing the animal, ITAR-TASS said citing local prosecutors.

According to country's main animal welfare body, Australia is leading in increasing number of obese pets. Royal Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals (RSPCA), says that the people show the love by overfeeding their pets thus posing them to increased risks of death.
