Maintenance workers responding to a complaint about a clogged toilet at the Palace of Justice, Spain found 30 pounds of hashish caught in a pipe was responsible for the blockage. The drug-filled drainage pipe was located Friday in a restroom used by prisoners inside the building that houses courtrooms and jail cells, in the Spanish enclave of Ceuta on the coast of Morocco.

Two inmates who held a guard for hostage in a smoke-free prison said they would go back to their cells if the officials presented them with tobacco. Howard Carlton, warden of the Northeast Correctional Complex said the two inmates Billy Grubb, 32, and Bradley Johnson, 25, attacked the guard Monday night and held him hostage for six hours.

James Sherley promised that he would go on a hunger strike if he was not granted tenure at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology. When he was denied on Monday the strike began. Sherley plans to spend each morning outside of MIT provost L. Rafael Reif's office and his afternoons in his lab working on his research -- all the while not consuming anything but water, vitamins and electrolyte supplements.

A team of researches from the Princeton University have discovered that lack of sleep could lead to memory loss and they suggest that people take a nap to reverse the effect of sleep deprivation. British scientists studied rats which were deprived of sleep for up to 72 hours. According to the New Scientists, sleep deprivation in rats causes stress hormones to accumulate in a part f the brain called the hippocampus, which stops the growth of cells that lay down new memories.

People passing by downtown Baguio city were shocked upon seeing artists, nursing students and gender rights activists parading a 30-foot condom on their shoulders. The colorful condom was the city's way of celebrating World AIDS Day, said Eden Divinagracia, executive director of the Philippine Non-Government Organization Council on Population Health and Welfare (PNGOC).
