The "Polar Bear Jail" in the Canadian town of Churchill will be expanding to house more wayward carnivores. According to press reports, the facility was built in 1980 in the polar bear capital of the world.

A Japanese monkey escaped the Roanoke city zoo and fled to a nearby forest on Sunday. Officials shut down the park on Monday and embarked on a search in the neighboring forest where they heard her up the trees. Dubbed Oops, the 20-pound Japanese macaque and her siblings were transferred from their cells for cleaning before she vanished early Sunday.

Two lifetime Bulgarian prisoners have stitched their lips and declared a hunger strike demanding cable television and other perks, officials said in Thursday. Prison director Vesselin Kotzev told AFP that he was trying to persuade the prisoner, who has removed his stitches to give an interview, that "stitching his mouth again is not the way to put in his demands, which anyway are unrealistic as they are forbidden by law. "

Four inmates, including the leader of a violent gang that abducted and killed the son of a former Honduran president, escaped from prison on Tuesday. According to Rafael Castro, the inmates all used makeshift saws to cut the bars to their cells and used the sound of the rain to disguise the noise of the escape. However, he also stated that some of the guards may have helped in the escape.

Monkeys and apes at Budapest Zoo are regular drinkers of red wine. Reuters reports the primates go through 55 liters of the alcohol every year.
