A 33-year-old aspiring chef from Edlington, England died after eating super-hot chili sauce as part of an endurance challenge with a friend.
Fork-lift driver Andrew Lee, who dreamed of becoming a chef, was challenged by his girlfriend's brother to see who could eat the spiciest sauce that he could prepared.
Lee prepared the sauce using tomatoes and red chilies grown on his fathers lot. However, the man complained of itching and severe discomfort.
He was later found dead by his girlfriend. He was believed to have died of heart attack during sleep.
Surprisingly, Lee was found to be in perfect health having just passed a medical examination for work. Friends describe him as a person who loves to cook and often prepare meals for his parents.
However, Lee is believed not to have cooked a dish as the one he prepared for the dare.
His sister, Claire Chadbourne, 29, said that Lee took a jar of the sauce to the home of his girlfriend, Samantha Bailey, and challenged her brother Michael, 29, to see who could eat it.
She told investigators, "Andrew just ate the chilies with a plate of Dolmio sauce. It was not a proper meal because he had already eaten lamb chops and potato mash after work.
"He apparently got into bed at 2:30 a.m. and started scratching all over. His girlfriend scratched his back until he fell asleep. She woke up, and he had gone. It is incredible. Who would have thought he could have died from eating chili sauce? We don't know of anything else that could have caused his death. The postmortem showed no heart problems," the sister adds.
