A South Carolina man was shocked to receive a post card post marked 60 years ago with a one cent stamp.
Ned Hethington said the person who went through the trouble to send the post card marked "lost" did not leave a note or anything telling him where it came from.
The retired police chief wanted to find out more about the card.
The card read, "Dear Granny. It is very hot up here. I thought this picture would cool you off by looking at it. Please write. Miss you. Aunt Olie Orr is going to take me around to see all the mountain. How is everyone. Margie."
After some digging, Hethington found that the card was mailed to Mrs. M.K. Hethington, who is probably his great-aunt, May King Hethington. She died in 1972. The sender is probably a deceased second cousin of his named Margery Gilreath.
He may have solved the mystery of who originally send the letter but the unknown sender who made sure he got the lost piece of mail is what Hethington now wants to know.
He said, "Someone paid 39 cents to send it to me, but why didn't they put a note in there? I'd just love to know who it was and where it's been all this time."
