Police in Northern Ohio rescue eight kids whose parents told authorities they kept them locked in cages for their own protection.

Lt. Randy Sommers of the Huron County Sheriff's Office says the children, ranging from age 1 to 14, were found locked in cages at their home in Wakeman, about 40 miles southwest of Cleveland.

The children were either adopted or foster children.

Authorities say the wooden cages were less than 3 feet by 3 feet, and the children were left without pillows or blankets.

After being rescued, the kids were sent to Fisher-Titus Medical Center in Norwalk, where they are listed in good condition.

Authorities say their parents, Mike and Sharon Gravelle, had 11 children in total. No charges have yet been filed against them.

All 11 victims have been placed in custody of the Huron County Department of Children and Families.
