A 22-year-old Nebraska man is charged Monday with first-degree assault for having sex with his underage 13-year-old wife. Matthew Koso legally married the girl in Kansas after she became pregnant. Her mother gave Koso permission to take the girl to Kansas where minors can get married with parental consent. She is now seven and a-half months pregnant.

German police let a nearly naked shopper go home after she told them she was getting groceries in the nude because she lost a spin the bottle contest, a police spokesman in Cologne said on Wednesday. "We're a tolerant city that is open to the world," said spokesman Burkard Jahn. "She could have been arrested for disturbing the peace, but we decided to let her go home with a verbal warning to dress appropriately next time. "

South Africa has begun celebrations in honor of Nelson Mandela's 87th birthday. A torch, first lit in Mandela's former prison cell on Robben Island, will be carried across South Africa in an effort to raise awareness about HIV-Aids.

The much-hyped National Kidney Foundation Cancer Show starts on a disappointing note, as donors has pledged only $6,800 to the NKF Cancer Fund on Thursday. In the previous show, contributions were between $600,000 and $900,000.
