To let the students study for exams, Shanghai will ban construction work during late night hours for the next 18 days.

According to the Shanghai Daily, it also plans to stop construction work at all sites within 100 meters (328 feet) of an exam hall during exam days from June 7-9 and June 17-18.

The Reuters news agency says that the new rules could be hard to enforce as construction companies could face losses. Heavy duty vehicles like trucks rumble through the night and jackhammers are used at all hours keeping residents awake.
