UK Student Takes On The World In Rubik's Championship

Dan Harris, UK Rubik's Speedcubing Champion, is a strong contender for the Rubik's Cube World Championship this Sunday, which marks the 25th Anniversary of the birth of the Rubik's Cube, brainchild of Hungarian designer and architect, Professor Erno Rubik. The second official Rubik's World Championship will be held at the Walt Disney Pop Century Resort in Florida on Sunday, November 6.

U.S. Company To Sell Lunar Land

In a bid to cash in on renewed interest in space travel, a U. S. company opens operations in China to sell land on the moon for 289 yuan or 37 dollars an acre. Lunar Embassy has began operations in Beijing Wednesday. Li Jie, agent for the company in China, says it will issue customers a "certificate" that ensures property ownership, including rights to use the land and minerals up to three kilometers, (roughly two miles), underground.

"SpongeBob SquarePants" Goes to China

"SpongeBob SquarePants" is set to premiere in 120 million Chinese households by the end of the year. It follows other shows on Viacom's Nickelodeon network, such as "CatDog" and "The Wild Thornberrys," which will air on the children's channel of state-run broadcaster China Central Television (CCTV). "SpongeBob" is expected to launch in China on or around December 28, the one-year anniversary of the CCTV Children's Channel.

Discovery of 4,000-year-old Noodles Could End Long-time Pasta Debate

A recent discovery by researchers could settle the age-old debate between the Chinese and the Italians over who invented noodles. A 4,000-year-old clump of yellow noodles was discovered inside an overturned bowl in western China. The noodles were made from a dough of two local varieties of millet. The bowl is sealed with clay, preserving the noodles.

Contest Rewards Ideas That Improve The Economy

A contest sponsored by the Service Employees International Union is calling on Americans to share their ideas on how to help the economy grow and create better-paying jobs. The winning idea is worth $100,000 and two runners-up will claim a second prize of $50,000 each. SEIU President Andrew Stern says the country needs new ideas on strengthening the economy and compete in the fast-changing international marketplace - ordinary Americans are the best people to provide those ideas.
