Critics lambasted a teahouse designed as a jail for being a danger in corrupting young minds. The recently opened venue has been enjoying success with the locals.
The teahouse is complete with cells, locks and wardens. Waitresses donned in female police officer attire lock customers up in cells that with fictional names of inmates and the crimes they committed.
One such sign described the criminal as a man who was nabbed after getting drunk and raping a pig.
Some patrons think the concept is an ingenious way to bond with friends will others are bothered by the ethics behind it.
"The signs should not be seen by under-aged people," said Dong Jian, a 25-year-old office worker.
Lu Shucheng, a Suzhou University sociologist, said that while it could not be forbidden, the teahouse should not allow young people in the premises.
Another restaurant in the Chinese city of Shenzhen is also reaping success with its toilet theme.
Seats are toilets covered with colorful glass while dining tables are shaped like squat toilets.
Their best-selling dish is the "No. 1 toilet ice" made of ice balls, rice dotted with coconut and served in a small toilet-like platter.
"The dish looks like something someone would flush down a toilet," reports Xinhua adding, "the food is supposed to be kind of crappy."
