Chinese officials are ordering a Shanghai teahouse to change its name, calling it a threat to public morality. The name of the shop is "Qingwa Bao Ernai," which translates roughly to "Frog Keeps a Mistress."
The Shanghai Daily and other newspapers said the shop was violating advertising law, citing local commercial bureau official Xu Jun.
"The name is also against social morality and common ethics," the Shanghai Daily quoted Xu as saying. Xu added that the change was necessary to "purify the city's ad markets."
The decision to force the name change may have something to do with the commonplace, but extremely sensitive, practice of keeping mistresses in the country.
Many officials in the Communist Party have been criticized for keeping mistresses, and Shanghai's former party chief, who was dismissed last year amid corruption allegations, was rumored to have kept several women on the side.
