A construction worker buried under a wall of mud managed to survive the ordeal, allegedly through the act of meditation and positive thinking.
The worker, 52-year old Wang Jianxin, was reportedly digging a ditch in eastern China when the wall came down on him, with him being buried with nothing other than his safety helmet for protection.
According to Jianxin, however, what helped him pull through was his calm attitude towards the situation, despite the fact that he was buried under 6 feet of dirt.
"I had my back to the wall and didn't know it was falling until it was on top of me," he said. "It was suddenly dark and I realized what had happened and found that there was a small air pocket in front of me."
According to the Telegraph, it was then that Jianxin altered his physical condition, letting himself relax and take the situation without panicking.
"I knew it would not last, so I made myself relax and concentrated on slowing down my breathing by meditation," said Jianxin. "It was very quiet down there and I was surprised that despite facing death how easy it was to focus my mind and bring about the inner calm needed for meditation."
Upon coming to a point where he began to feel himself suffocating, he heard people trying to dig him out from underneath. His co-workers reportedly used their bare hands, fearing that using shovels would inure Jianxin.
Jianxin was buried for two hours.
