At least some 7,500 babies in China who were born since year 2000 share one thing in common - their given name is "Aoyon", translated to "Olympics" or either Bei Bei, Jing Jing, Huang Huang, Ying Ying or Ni Ni, representing the "Five Friendlies" Olympics animated characters. Chinese parents were reported to be riding the hype on the upcoming Beijing Olympic Games slated in the country next year and they take too much inspiration in naming their newly born kids after the historic event.

Four war-displaced Japanese who were living in China after the World War II have finally arrived home on Monday. The three men and one woman were recognized by the Japanese and Chinese governments as "war orphans" Zhao Ji, 65, Li Fengchao, 65, Liu Guoxin, 66, and Chen Fenglan, 67, will visit Japan; there is no word on if they will stay. An appointment was made with Liu and his possible half brother in Ibaraki on Wednesday. "I want to hear about my father and myself," said Liu. "I would like to visit my father's grave and Miyagi Prefecture, where my roots are. "

The Chinese Confucius Foundation in cooperation with China's two media giants inked a $ 5. 3 million deal on Friday to make a cartoon series highlighting the life and teachings of the popular ancient philosopher, Confucius. The cartoon series, to be composed of 100 episodes in 13-minuter format each, will be aired to mark the 2,560th birth anniversary of Confucius in 2009.

A ten-year-old boy has been described as a lingo genius after it was learned he could speak 10 languages aside from his native Hindi. Arpan Sharma, a primary pupil from Oldbury, West Midlands taught himself using CD-Rom, French, Spanish, German, Italian, Swahili, Mandarin, Polish, Thai and the Lugandan language of Uganda.

A tourist died when a woman drove through the front window of a Chinese restaurant in the Queensland town of Longreach. According to an eyewitness, the woman was just "straightening up her park" when she accidentally went through the window of the Happy Valley Chinese restaurant on Eagle Street. The 50-year-old woman sitting next to the window was killed and her 55-year-old husband was injured as a result of the incident.
