Several states are planning to kill two bird with one stone by releasing inmates ahead of schedule to cut costs and decongest jails. Leading the pack is California, which wants to set free 22,000 prisoners by 20 months ahead in an effort to reduce by $1. 1 billion over the next two years the state's penitentiary system budget and to ease the overcrowding in the U. S. most populated jail. The early liberty would apply only to inmates who are in for nonviolent and nonsexual crimes.

Citibank NA Bangladesh has provided the partial funding for making of a non-commercial research-based documentary on the Bangladeshi nationalist movement and the subsequent war for independence. The documentary titled "1971" produced by film director Tanvir Mokammel will depict the historically significant national and international events of the war. Historical footages from home and abroad will also be used in the 120 minute documentary film.

Chicago City Colleges will train students for jobs in the casino industry if the plan to introduce casinos in the state gets approved. Chancellor Wayne Watson made the announcement after Alderman Tom Tunney (44th), owner of Ann Sather's Restaurants, suggested offering casino training if the casino plan gets Legislative approval.

A large number of students from U. S. universities are worried about the use of popular social networking site Facebook. com after their parents started using it to inspect and reject their future roommates. There have been reports about many concerned parents using the online site to reject or approve of their child's college roommate by visiting their profile and analysing their behaviour.

At least one frolicking couple at Yale University has prompted a professor to send out an e-mail reminding students that the showers are for showering. The e-mail was sent out after a couple's romp in the shower caused the bathroom to flood and put it out of order for 90 minutes.
