Florida may become the tenth state to make confederate flag specialty license plates. But some say the flag represents hate and should not be accepted.
The Sons of Confederate Veterans (SVC) said the flag represents their heritage but they must show that 30,000 other Floridians support the new plate before the state legislature will look at the option.
If it is approved the vehicles could don the plates by next year. Specialty plates in Florida cost $25 so if 30,000 people show support that's three quarters of a million dollars to support education and re-enactments in the state.
But some say the flag conjures feelings of racism, prejudice, and memories of the Klu Klux Klan.
However, John Walker Adams with SCV said public support has been "overwhelmingly positive."
