One lucky man is being paid $110,000 to live on an Australian resort island for six months. The catch? He's got to blog about his time there-weekly.

Billed as 'the best job in the world,' the Australian tourism bureau held a worldwide contest to select their new hire, ABC News reported.

Winner Ben Southall of England will live in a luxurious house on a paradise island in Australia's Great Barrier Reef. Along with 34,000 other applicants, Southall made a 60-second audition video resume for the job.

Finalists, flown to the island for the final selection, were only required to speak English and be able to swim to qualify for the spo.

Shortly after the contest was announced, the Web site advertising the position crashed after about 160,000 people visited the site in hopes of nabbing 'the best job in the world,.

Some of Southall's duties as the new island caretaker will include grueling tasks like whale watching, feeding turtles and checking the mail.

Tourism Queensland hoped the contest would drum up more interest in vacations to the area.

"The campaign aims to highlight the islands of the Great Barrier Reef and showcase Australia's unique island experience to the global market," Anthony Hayes, chief executive of Tourism Queensland, told The Daily Mail.
