A convicted cop killer skipped his own dinner on the eve of his execution and instead requested jail authorities to deliver vegetarian pizzas to any homeless person located near Riverbend Maximum Security Institution. Although the request was denied by jail authorities citing their policy matters, the wish didn't remain unfulfilled, thanks to several volunteers who came forward and donated pizzas to homeless shelters across Nashville.

The pizzas started pouring in at the homeless shelters across the town right beginning Wednesday morning when Nashville's Oasis Center received a delivery of 17 pizzas from a Minneapolis, Minnesota, radio station, CNN.com reports.

The word spread and other shelters also started receiving pizza deliveries in the name of Philip Workman from anonymous donors.

"If this guy wants to show a redemptive act at the end, then we ought to encourage that, especially because by denying the request, you're actually denying some poor homeless guy a pizza," said Ian Punnett of Minnesota radio station told the Tennessean.com.

Philip Workman was executed on May 9, 2007, for the murder of a police officer following a botched robbery of a Wendy's restaurant in Memphis, Tennessee.
