Police are searching for a couple who threatened a 19-year-old woman Sunday evening and cut off her waist-length hair with a pair of scissors.

The man and the woman couple attacked Simone Regina Penteado and told her if she did not stand still they would kill her with the knife. They took off with about 36 inches of the girl's hair.

Police Spokeswoman Natalia Rinaldi said, "The woman grabbed about 90 centimeters of Simone's dark brown hair and cut it off at the nape of her neck."

Police said the couple likely wanted the hair to sell to wig makers or hair-transplant centers. This is not the first time such a thing has happened. In February an assailant cut 12 inches of hair from a 45-year-old woman in Araraquara.

If the couple is caught, police said they could face armed robbery charges, which means a maximum sentence of 15 years.
