A man and his girlfriend climbed a suspension bridge near Frankfurt so they could watch the sunset, but passers-by mistook their actions for a double suicide attempt, police said Monday.

A driver called the police after he saw the couple sitting on top of the bridge, and squad cares, fire engines and a police speedboat with divers hurried to the scene.

They climbed down from the bridge "and said sheepishly they had just wanted to watch the sun come up," says police spokesman Franz Winkler.

Unfortunately, it looks like the romantic couple may have to pay out of pocket for their adventure, says Winkler.

Firefighters say their "rescue bill" is 1,600 euros and police are still calculating their sum.
