Cow chip throwers are coming together this weekend to compete for the title of top dung hurler. The Illinois Championship Cow Chip Throw is being held at the Chatham Jaycees Sweet Corn Festival.
Competitors pay $5 each for the opportunity to hurl two patties as far as they can. Expert cow chip throwers have been known to throw chips more than 200 feet.
Then can compete as many times as they'd like. The money collected goes toward a scholarship fund at a local high school.
Local farmers have been working overtime this year to make sure there's enough patties to toss. The patties, also known as "meadow muffins", are left to bake in the sun until they reach the right consistency before they're used in the competition.
