India's sacred cows have a price on their heads, and it's causing chaos on the streets of this developing country.
The Delhi High Court issued an order instructing authorities to offer $46 per cow - an average Indian's monthly salary - to rid the city of the traffic clogging animals, reports the Hindustan Times
Cows are sacred to Hindus and an estimated 35,000 of them, along with buffalo, roam free in the capital. Traffic routinely comes to a halt on highways to allow the animals to cross, leading to accidents.
"Cowboys" toting sticks are chasing cows all over the city, leaving authorities at a loss for where to store the flood of animals being handed to them, the newspaper reports.
