During a wake, mourners fleed as a dead woman was shot by a stray bullet while lying in her casked, Wednesday.

According to police, Clenilda da Silva, 49, a babysitter, had died the previous day of a heart attack, and was hit by a bullet fired in a shootout between a drug gang and police in an area adjacent to the cemetery.

The bullet pierced the casket inside the cemetery's chapel and got lodged in the corpse's pelvis. The bullet was not removed before burial.

Rio de Janeiro reportedly has one of the world's highest murder rates, such standoffs are regular and often claim innocent lives.
