North Carolina Highway Patrol officers and Woodfin police temporarily closed a portion of a freeway near Asheville on Tuesday to let a bear get her dead cub from the roadside. The cub was ran over earlier Tuesday on Interstate 26, near the New Stock Road exit, and the officers stopped the traffic for 20 minutes to pull its body to the roadside and allow the mother bear to retrieve it. The police and motorists then watched from a distance the bear grab her dead 80-pound cub by the scruff of its neck and ran into the woods along with another cub.
