Denver is the most "lustful" city in America judging by the number of contraceptives sold in the city compared with its population size.
According to a ranking made by Forbes Magazine and research firm ACNielsen, Denver is followed by San Antonio, Texas and Portland, Oregon, both tied for second place. The other states in the list are Seattle; Salt Lake City; Washington, D.C.; Columbus, Ohio; Cincinnati; Baltimore; and Buffalo.
Denver topped the ranking because sales of over-the-counter contraceptives there is 189 percent more than what would be expected for a city its size, the ranking observed.
Though condom and contraceptive sales are an imperfect way of measuring sexual desire they do provide a broad picture of sexual activity in each city, MyFoxColorado reported Tuesday.
The higher-than-average purchases of condoms in Denver could be due to younger consumers, who buy protection consistently, Dr. Kees Rietmeijer, director for the Sexually Transmitted Diseases Control Program at the Public Health Department in Denver, told Msnbc.
Many Americans are still undereducated about the consequences of sexual contact as reflected in the rising cases of STIs, including chlamydia and the human papillomavirus (HPV), said Dr. Michael Reece, director of the Center for Sexual Health Promotion at Indiana University.
