The Deschutes County Sheriff's Office is mourning over the death of their 2-year-old patrol dog named Koda, who apparently ate car seats and choked himself to death.
Authorities believe that Koda chewed through the dog food stored in the sheriff's department patrol car after he escaped from his kennel. After the food, Koda apparently started chewing on the seats and choked on the foam.
AP reports that this Belgian malinois died on Monday, just a few months after joining Deschutes County deputies as a patrol dog. The officer who owned the dog had to be offered grief counseling as he was "devastated" after the dog's death.
No particular negligence on the part of Koda's handler was found and authorities are speculating that boredom could be a reason why the dog ate car seats.
