A Detroit woman charged with throwing red grapes at school board members has been ordered to stay away from all board meetings and was given a $1,000 personal bond on Thursday today in 36th District Court.
Agnes Hitchcock, head of the Call 'Em Out Coalition, an activist group, faces a May 11 pretrial hearing on a disorderly conduct charge.
According to The Detroit News, Hitchcock attends school board meetings to protest the board's actions. School board authorities accused her of throwing red grapes during an aggressive meeting about school closings.
Hitchcock, who was arrested by Detroit Public Schools officers last week, refused to acknowledge whether she threw the grapes and added, "It is ridiculous. They know the grape is not a deadly weapon."
Describing the whole incident as "Grapes of Wrath," her lawyer, William said that Hitchcock's exclusion from board meetings is unnecessary and could violate the state's Open Meetings Act.
