Israeli Police Chief Introduces Hebrew-English Police Dictionary

Commander Shahar Ayalon, serves as both traffic police chief and speaker to foreign delegations in Israel and abroad; the latter due to his near-perfect English. Somehow, he has found the time to compile a new tool that will prove invaluble to Israeli law enforcement: a Hebrew-English pocket-size dictionary.

The editors of Merriam-Webster dictionaries got more than 3,000 entries when they asked visitors to their Web site to submit their favorite words that aren't in the dictionary. Arthur Bicknell, a spokesman for the Springfield-based dictionary publisher, admited, "It was a lot of fun. We weren't expecting so many. They only had two weeks. "
