A police chase ended with the unexpected help from man's best friend.

Wanting to talk to Nicholas Galanis about some stolen property, Iron County sheriff's officers approached him at his property.

According to the police, that was when Galanis got in his vehicle and drove off with his dog.

The chase wound up on a windy, bumpy dirt road.

Sheriff's detective Jody Edwards says, "Deputies could see the dog in the passenger seat getting slammed into the window."

According to Edwards, the dog was so agitated about the drive; then bit his owner in the face, removing part of his nose.

Galanis was taken to the hospital for medical attention before being booked into jail.
