The Livingston County American Red Cross honored a 2-year old English Mastiff, who according to them had donated blood more than 20 times.

The donations of the dog, named Lurch, had reportedly been of great help to the organization, as it had even aided in the recovery of a dog that ingested rat poison.

According to Joni Melvin-Thiede, Lurch's owner, the blood donated by the pooch had gone a long way, to places such as the Michigan State University, and even lands in several clinics.

"You really don't end up knowing which dogs he helps, but his little picture goes on each bag so the person that gets it will actually know it," the UPI quoted Melvin-Thiede.

Lurch had been invited by the Red Cross to attend the "Everyday Heroes" banquet, slated to take place Thursday, where he is scheduled to receive the "Pet's Best Friend" award.

"We're doing something different this year," Dianne Serra, executive director, told Globe and Mail. "We're honoring Lurch because he's actually donated blood."

Lurch reportedly donates blood on an average of once every four.
