A woman managed to escape from a house fire in the nick of time, thanks to the warning from her dog.

Cathy Minnig of Eagan, Minn. was exercising on the treadmill located at the basement of her home Wednesday, noticed her Labrador puppy, Riley, jumping up and down the couch, and acting in an unusual manner. Minnig, who was listening to her iPod during the time, took of her headphones to hear the sounds of fire alarms.

Minnig ran upstairs, according to the Minneapolis Star Tribune, and found her entire living room on fire. She grabbed the dog and managed to escape unscathed, said Fire Chief Mike Scott.

The fire crew was notified and immediately arrived at the scene to see the house completely engulfed in flames. Scott said that the fire became more of a challenge for them as it had melted the power lines and ruptured the gas line.

Scott added that the house was completely destroyed.

"That was a real smart dog," Scott said. "Without the dog, she would have never made it out."

A firefighter was injured, as he slipped while returning some hoses to the truck. He was immediately rushed to the hospital, where he received several stitches near his eye.

Other than that, no other injuries were reported.

The AP added to say that Minnig's two sons were not home during the time of the incident.
