Hurricane Wilma has left a majority of South Florida without power. In Miami-Dade County, with only 18 out of 2,600 traffic lights working, The Florida Highway Patrol and local police are reminding motorists that all unlighted intersections must be treated as four-way stops.
Drivers who fail to observe the rule face a stiff penalty.
Under the traffic law, Motorists must stop at all unlighted intersections - treating the situation as a four-way stop.
At a four-way stop, the driver reaching the intersection first - after coming to a complete stop - gets to go first.
Drivers who keep driving and follow the car ahead through the intersection without stopping, will be ticketed.
Police are warning drivers who fail to stop will receive the same citation given to motorists who run red lights. A ticket that now costs South Florida drivers $198.
