Pickup truck driver Jeffrey Crane was worried when his vehicle failed to start up after filling up at a Marathon Station in Hobart on Saturday. He then got his pickup towed to a repair shop and was surprised to discover that the fuel tank had water in it instead of gas.
The northwest Indiana gas station is dispensing water instead of gasoline after a cracked seal on a mechanical probe allowed ground water to seep into it on Saturday. Ahmad Mochtar, the station's owner told AP, "It was an accident. It was beyond our control."
However, the pickup truck driver said the station failed to issue a general warning about the problem fuel and only informed people who came back to the station. "That's not being responsible," he said.
Apart from repairing the station's fuel dispensing system, the gas station is directing the affected customers to the station's insurance company.
