A driver serves to avoid a cat in the road and ends up striking a teenager on a skateboard. The teen was later pronounced dead at an area hospital.
Kevin Rivers, 17, of Jacksonville, was reportedly standing by the side of the road with his skateboard Saturday night when he was hit.
The driver, whose name was not released, told police he swerved the car to avoid a cat. Investigators say the driver will not face charges because Rivers was partially standing on the road at the time.
Rivers' mother, Naomi Falson, tells local media, "I'm devastated. He was too young. He was a good boy. He wanted something in life.''
