Six elephants including three calves died in India's north-eastern state of Meghalaya after getting drunk on rice beer and running through a paddy field where they were electrocuted, officials and residents said Tuesday. The incident happened in the village of Chandan Nukat, about 250 kilometres west of Shillong, the state capital, on Sunday night.

A woman was arrested on the charge of driving under the influence Saturday night after a series of 9-1-1 calls made by her 8-year old son. The caller told Clark County Sheriff's dispatcher that Paulette Lynn Spears, 33, was allegedly driving erratically.

A drunk tourist swimming in a river in Queensland, was attacked by a crocodile and was able to stave it off. Shockingly after emerging from the river after a fierce fight with the reptile, he fell asleep at his campsite because he had too many drinks prior. According to a local newspaper, Matt Martin sustained gashes to his face after the encounter.

A drunken, barefoot Frenchman was reportedly seized by the authorities after he managed to ring a bell in the facade of St. Peter's Basilica in the Vatican. Reports said the man, believed to be homeless, entered St. Peter's by climbing up scaffolding around the Arch of the Bells, which is undergoing restoration and reconditioning.

Zimbabwe's central bank governor is asking for limits and controls on the price of beer. He said cheap lager was responsible for turning the country into a nation of drunkards. In June the price of beer and other commodities were cut by the government in an attempt at at staving off inflation. Current estimates now have levels at 6,500 percent. Reports out of the country say that a pint of lager is now only available in hotels and is cheaper to buy than a bottled of mineral water.
