Internet powerhouse and auction site eBay Inc. has scrapped plans for members to allow live pets to be sold on its Web site after being deluged by thousands of angry letters from users.

The internet site has previously prevented users to sell live animals except fish and snails, and company officials on Monday report they were putting a halt to plans creating a separate classifieds category that would feature free ads from animal shelters and paid ads from breeders.

Users worried that a site of their reach would encourage practitioners of unsafe and inhumane animal breeding to step up their efforts and methods for increased sales of the animals.

Commenting on over the 2,000 letters Ebay President Hani Durzy received he says, "The feedback was pretty overwhelming, farms and for-profit commercial breeders wasn't something that they wanted to see."
