A whopping 57 percent of U.S. adults said holiday drinks such as eggnog, hot chocolate and punch were boring. Those results led a contest given by a syrup firm to invent a new drink.
The winner: Mulled Pomegranate Warmer, which includes lemons, oranges, sugar, water, pomegranate or raspberry syrup, wine and spices.
Eggnog was the beverage considered most in need of a modern makeover, according to survey of 2,000 adults by conducted by Harris Interactive. Torani, a leading flavoring syrup company, created the contest in response to a national study that showed 57 percent of Americans surveyed are bored with typical holiday beverages, and are ready to serve -- and be served -- more fun and creative glasses at this year's soirees.
While it seems Americans have lost their historical passion for eggnog, champagne and mulled cider remain festive favorites with 90 percent of all respondents stating that those beverages are the most welcome at the holiday table.
